Guillermo Castro, 98, of Port Arthur passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Senior Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.
He was born in La Paz, Honduras on June 25, 1919 to his parents, Santiago Calix and Guadalupe Castro. Guillermo has been a resident of the United States since 1956. He retired as a merchant marine affiliated with MEBA after 43 years of service. While serving duty as a merchant marine, he served during WWII and was recognized as a veteran of the war under the U. S. Coast Guard. Guillermo was an member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his two siblings.
Guillermo is survived by his loving wife, Irma Ofelia Castro of Port Arthur, his two sons, Orlando Castro and wife, Libby of Houston, Leonardo Castro of Beaumont, his four daughters, Irma Castro of Houston, Lucille Shaffer and husband, Dennis of Houston, Rebecca Oâ€™Hara and husband, Gary of Galveston, Regina Castro of Pearland. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, April Fort ( Jack), Christopher Castro, Denise Shaffer and Brianna Shaffer as well as three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Directors in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Clayton Thompson.
